Family Tradition

"My Family Tradition"

Birthday Celebration

In every birthday I have my mother and father held party for me. I invited my friends, classmates and cousins to my birthday party. My mother prepared many delicious foods such as chicken, fish ball, and my favorite mango float and we put up some decorations. When my classmate came, they gave their presents and said happy birthday to me. We played a lot of game such as computer games, catching and other exciting games. After all we also eat together with my family. At the end, I was very thankful to our savior Jesus Christ for the blessings that he gave us and my family.

Fiesta
Each town celebrates fiesta as a dedication to the patrons. A parade of patrons will be held a day before the event as well as other activities such as Basketball league and singing contest or beauty pageant. Indicators of a town fiesta are the "Banderitas". It hung up above the roads tied to light posts. People prepare months before the celebration. Fiesta go on for two days. The most common food prepared during fiesta are lechon baboy (roasted pig), pork, humba and pancit. The pre-celebrations is called "deperas" and the actual day of celebration in Cebuano is called fiesta. It is a disappointment to not be able to prepare food for unexpected visitors even if they are not invited to your home seriously but, it is  fiesta all people of dumaguete are readlly invited to eat. It is not mandatory to celebrate a fiesta. Expect to heard loud music until midnight during the days of the fiesta especially if your are near the town's auditorium.

Festivals
In every festivals held in dumaguete city my family always with me and is a joyful celebration of the people of dumaguete, their innate hospitality, friendliness, and their propensity to live harmoniously with the people of different race, religion and cultural beliefs. Through the course history and to the present time, the people of dumaguete have always known to welcome strangers from different shores and countries, and to live with them in complete peace and understanding. In celebrating festivals in dumaguete is very awesome because this the way that you can bond with your family and enjoy everything during competetion and this is the way to forget problem to our family.

Singing

Singing stands as a big part of family traditions. Every time there are gathering in provinces or sun urban areas, there is always a videoke machine. Singing contest and videoke have become a part of almost every occasion and celebration. Filipinos love to sing even though some are not gifted with a golden voice. In singing videoke this the way to forget your problem instead of realizing it and we need to enjoy our life and bond with your family.

Christmas Celebration

Christmas is a birth of our savior Jesus Christ. Christmas time is the time for giving, sharing, loving, bonding with family but for me it's all about fun. I have so much fun during this time of the year. I like to stay with family as much as i can until we can't take it anymore. During the season of the holidays, it's all about food like the candy, tamales, doughnuts, cookies, cake, rice, beans and gifts that well all receive. For it's all about family my great friends and the Christmas party.

The Things to do and see in my home town

"Rizal Boulevard"

Rizal boulevard is named after Dr. Jose Rizal, a man who is considered the national icon in the Philippines. In the 1880 during  Spanish colonial rule of the Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal worked through non-violent action to expose many negative aspects of the Spanish rule and proposed governmental reforms to improve life for the Filipinos. Dr. Rizal was banished and eventually executed for his views on Spain rule of the Philippines, but his life and untimely death encouraged more Filipinos to seek independence from Spain. This is an excellent spot for anyone interested in the history of the Philippines.

Most people love to convene during late afternoons at one of the sidewalk cafes, bars or restaurants at the boulevard. Some take strolls at this particular time of the day to escape from the heat and the enjoy the ocean breezes. It is also perfect place to experience the sunrise as well as the sunset either while sipping a refreshing drink or just sitting, talking with friends and starring out into the horizon like having no cares in the world.

There are a lot of things you can do in Rizal boulevard. You can bond with your friends, eat and hang out at the various restaurants beside boulevard, you can also have a daily walk or run along the boulevard. Dumaguete Rizal Boulevard is well known for its balot ( a pinoy food) and tempura near the seaport. People of all ages would choose to bring their friends and family here because it is not so expensive. After all, simple pleasures are the best.

The Legend of my hometown "Dumaguete City"

"Buñao Dumaguete City"

Known as the "City of Gentle People", Dumaguete City became a town in 1620. The late Dr. Timoteo S. Oracion, one of the member of the city councilor, said in his writings that dumaguete became the capital of Negros Oriental in June 1901. Dumaguete has lured and captivated many racial strains since the olden times. The city's annual festival "Sandurot sa Malumong Dumaguitnon" every november reenacts the rites of welcome for these migrations that have enriched the cultural character of the city. According to legend Dumaguete City was coined from the Visayan word "dagit" which means "to snatch". The word Dumaguet, meaning "to swoop" was coined because of the rampant raids by marauding pirates from the south in search for slaves. To warm the fishing village of the incoming raids by marauding pirates the belfry tower was created in the year 1811. The belfry is a four-story  ovoid tower supported by three buttresses. Located near, but separated from the Cathedral,
it is made of coral and lime with brick facings, and has arched and diamond shaped windows. Today, the Dumaguete Belfry Tower still stands proud amidst the modern buildings surrounding it. The amazing huge old Spanish inspired structure that certainly calls the attention of the passerby on the busy Perdices Street is the oldest landmark in Dumaguete City. Now,  the moros plundering the neighboring islands, abducting the women and the children, who, were told, were being ground and minted into money and gold by the moros. These plundering grew very intense in some nearby islands and there were terrible rumors that these moros were coming to dumaguete. It was not called "dumaguete" then, the peopled were concerned and they prayed har for protection. The families gathered at night to the pray nuestra senora and to Santa Catalina to deliver them from this danger. The people had the special devotion to Santa Catalina and Santa plight, she was swift i giving them her protection. Santa Catalina was known to have a stalwart and military woman. Every time the moros intended invading the island she would send a swarm of bees to cover the whole place, so that it would be seen from a far as a big cloud, swallowing the island into the bosom of the horizon, so the moros could not find the island.
