Poster depicting the message of the poem "To A Lost One"

 To A Lost One
Angela Manalang-Gloria

I shall haunt you, O my lost one, as the twilight
Haunts a grieving bamboo trail,
And your dreams will linger strangely with the music
Of a phantom lover’s tale

You shall not forget, for I am past forgetting
I shall come to you again
With the starlight, and the scent of wild champakas,
And the melody of rain.

You shall not forget. Dusk will peer into your
Window, tragic-eyed and still,
And unbidden startle you into remembrance
With its hand upon the sill.

To a lost one

The poem To a lost one for me, is a poem all about death. A dark atmosphere is created when reading the lines of the poem. Trails, or hints of emotion can be found within the text. And for me, I think that these emotions are what's dominant on the whole poem. By Psychological Approach is perhaps the most effective approach that we can use when it comes to these situations. The Psychological Approach does not only focus on the behavior and characteristics that can be found on the characters or from the writer of a piece of literature but it can also discuss the emotions that are present there.

Moving on to the analysis of the first paragraph, from what I have interpreted of the poem, it seems like the point of view is from the dead person instead of the one grieving for him. Such is said due to the use of words made by the writer. Grief is the emotion that can be seen on the first paragraph. The one who died expresses his sadness for being separated from his loved one. This grief tends to affect the person who was loved and is haunting her. As what is said from lines 2-4, the ghost haunts the dream of the girl and there lingers a strange music with it.

The second paragraph focuses on the emotion of not wanting to be forgotten. The so called ghost still wants to be remembered by the girl. And his way of making her remember him is through the help of nature. The signs of nature that are produced serves as the representation of himself for the girl to see. From the light of the stars at night, to the scent of
Champakas, and even from the melody of the rain.

On the last paragraph, the person who died or the guy stated firmly that the girl will definitely not forget him. He is sure that his efforts will reach the girl and make her remember of him. Overall the poem expresses emotions such as grief and regret for  the person who died still cannot move on to the next life. Maybe by making the girl remember him can ease some of his pain and help him passover to the next life.
